Thanks for subscribing to the newsletter for LiveOnPurpose.info. Live On Purpose is about helping you become conscious of your thought patterns, so you can make better decisions in your life. Don't live an accidental life! Live on purpose. But first, an On-Purpose maxim: Firmness of purpose is one of the best instruments of success. ~Lord Chesterfield Stanhope I have recently bought a book entitled Happy For No Reason by Marci Shimoff. This book, to my delight, outlines the very tactic I'd like to best teach through Live on Purpose; the fact that you don't have to believe everything you think. She talks in depth about the fact that you can question your thoughts, and you don't have to accept them at face value. In my own words, "I'm passionate about letting people know that it's okay NOT to own every thought that crosses the mind. Just think to yourself, I am not my thoughts. You are much, much more than your thoughts and emotions!" And so for this issue of the newsletter, I found a link to a method you can use when you find yourself in the midst of life-draining depression. The author calls it Emotional Thought Stopping and if you stick to it, you can begin to break the habit of reinforcing every negative thought that appears in your mind. First you have to get in the swing of identifying a limiting or negative thought, then when you can catch one, you tell it to stop. Just talk to it like you're telling your dog to stop peeing on the floor. This works because you are not your thoughts. You don't have to identify with them. Even if you are not in the grips of depression right now, you can learn to master this technique to conquer your "ANTs". You see, in Happy For No Reason, Marci Shimoff explains that an "Automatic Negative Thought" is an ANT, in psychologist-speak. It makes for a perfect analogy to think of your limiting thoughts as tiny ants marching across your mindscape. It gives the art of Salvador Dali new meaning, anyway! And an even better method for overcoming limiting beliefs is outlined in Happy for No Reason. Chapter four explains how to do the Sedona Method. Since this is copyrighted information, I won't explain it here. All I can do is recommend this book for anyone, depressed or not. It is full of real-life examples of how others overcame their negative life experiences. Happy for No Reason at Amazon.comOf course, the Holosync program makes all of these practices more effective and possibly easier.(nobody said inner emotional work is easy! It's difficult and it takes perseverance.) If you have never tried Holosync, go see the web site for yourself. Thanks for reading, Jessica A. |
