Thanks for subscribing to the newsletter for LiveOnPurpose.info. Live On Purpose is about helping you become conscious of your thought patterns, so you can make better decisions in your life. Don't live an accidental life! Live on purpose. This month's focus is on meditation in the news.

But first, an On-Purpose maxim:

Thought allied fearlessly to purpose becomes creative force. ~James Ray

I have updated the Meditation and Your Health News page with some more articles that point to the positive health benefits achieved with meditation. Most notably, Time Magazine issued a feature article entitled "The Brain: A User's Guide" on January 29, 2007.

Here are the new articles from the above page:

I am going to link you into the middle of a long article published by Time.com, of Time Magazine. Look for the "As Scientists Probe..." paragraph. This is evidence that people with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) can improve their condition using mindfulness meditation. The scientists conclude that "the mind can change the brain."

Mindfulness meditation is the process of looking at thoughts as they arise, examining them, labelling them, and putting them down. It is this practice I am referring to when I say "you don't have to own every thought that crosses your mind." This is how you can sculpt your personality, just as a weight-lifter is sculpting his/her body.

On the next page of the same article, Time Magazine talks about the famous study of Buddhist monks who meditated while an MRI machine scanned their brains. The conclusion is that "the positive state is a skill that can be trained."

So don't worry if you're depressed, just practice any kind of meditation! It's not an overnight fix, and it takes self-discipline.

Here is a short article at Psychology Today that explains an experiment where participants had their brain waves scanned at three points in the study. It was found that those who meditate shift their brain activity to the left frontal lobe. The conclusion is that meditators are calmer and happier than non-meditators!

Benefits of Meditation

Now, it's that "self-discipline" thing that seems to be the catch for most people when it comes to meditation. First you have to allot the time for it. Then you have to get up the courage to actually do it, if you know what you're doing at all. I think these two things are what holds most of us back from being regular in our meditation practice. The Holosync application solves problem number two. You don't have to know or do anything except listen to the CD. As long as you've made the time for it, it is simple to do. It is not guided meditation, so you don't have to listen to anyone talking on the recording. It's just bells and rain. Behind the scenes, your brain is doing the transformative work, and you will get results faster than any other means of normal unassisted meditation.

So if you already own Holosync CD's, get them out and dedicate an hour a day - some people like to set their alarm for an hour before they normally get up and slip on the CD while in bed. Some people just listen when they go to bed. Slowly, it will transform your life.

If you have never tried Holosync, go see the web site for yourself.
