The
best way to become aware of where your thoughts are taking you is to care
about how you feel. As you go about your day, you are observing, imagining,
and remembering things. It is important to be aware of the power of our own
thinking, because as we think—we are marching towards the object of
our attention. And by focusing on the way we feel, we can tell whether or
not we are going to like it when we get there!
We think many thoughts a day. Some thoughts are serving us very well, and others—well, not so well. And while it would be a burden to try to be aware of every single thought you think every day, it is not a burden to monitor your feelings. While you are feeling negative emotion, you need to become aware of what it is doing. It is the red flag that signals you are now thinking something that is taking you down a path that is not going to be very pleasant when it manifests in your reality. When you begin to see emotions in this way, you really see the blessing that they are for us. They are our navigational system!
So when you feel that negative emotion—simply stop, and ask yourself, “why am I feeling this negative emotion—what would this thought take me towards?” For example, if you were noticing that you did not have enough money, the law of attraction is now bringing you more thoughts of scarcity. You are now attracting and lining up circumstances and events that will help you feel very validated in not having enough money. So what you really want to do is stop, and laugh, and think a thought that feels slightly better. Such as, “well, everything always ends up ok, I am sure this will pass” or “I am sure this is all going to work out some how or another.” Notice how that would feel better than, “I don’t know how I am going to pay this bill…” And if you keep reaching for slightly better feeling thoughts, pretty soon you are thinking, “I am feeling very good about my financial situation! I am now remembering that I am the creator of my reality, and as I am now appreciating the things that I have, and imagining and envisioning all of the things I want— and feeling good about it—I am marching towards my intended outcome.” It really just gets better and better when you begin to care about how you feel, and the results that show up in your life as you focus more on what is wanted instead of the absence of what you want will amaze you and everyone around you.
So where does action come into all of this? And what is this new fangled “law of attraction”? Well, the law of attraction has been around as long as life has. It is a universal law, with no exceptions, that says “like attracts like.” Many people have seen this law in action and then say things like, “birds of a feather flock together.” But our thoughts also attract like thoughts. So when we think a positive thought and hold it for 30 seconds—you then have access to other good feeling thoughts. If you are cursing yourself and condemning your life situation—law of attraction will only give you access to thoughts that are of a similar feeling. So if you sit in your bedroom and feel good, think positive thoughts, and envision yourself getting a million dollars—will it just fall on your lap? Absolutely. But then you say, “I have wanted that for as long as I can remember, and it is still not here.” And that is because...
a) you do not truly believe it can happen. If you wanted an encouraging email—and you received it, you would not consider this a miracle because you expect these things to happen. And you are not assuming it is going to be a very hard task—because checking your email or your mail box is part of the flow of your every day life. And this is also the manner in which big things can come to you if you will allow it. So yes, there is action, but it either happens effortlessly, or it is inspired. Haven’t you ever gotten a feeling that you just *had* to do something—only to say later “good thing I followed my gut feeling there”, because it ended up being something you had been asking for?
b) Most people are not reaching for a “knowing” that what they want is already here. Most people are pushing up against what they do not want. So they are standing in the absence of what is wanted, and while they are pointing and staring at the absence of money, or absence of love, or absence of friendship—they are only attracting more of that.
It is very important to realize that reality doesn’t mean a diddly squat. What *does* mean the difference between manifestation and things staying the same is whether or not you can understand that all you have to do is know you want something, and then allow it into your experience. The more you notice it’s missing, the more you are pushing it away. And you are asking quite naturally every day for things you want. You get a bill you don’t have money for—you launch a desire for more money. You get cut off on the road—you launch a desire to have a more pleasant driving experience. It is the most natural thing a human can do.
So that is why nothing is more important than that we feel good. Because the asking part is happening very automatically. And this is a three step process we have here.
1) We ask.
2) It is given, every time, no exceptions—right away.
3) We must come into alignment with our own desire. That means we must feel good. We must feel the joy that we would feel as if we already had it.
And if that is too hard for you, think about something else that feels good until it comes about. It is much easier than you think.
