If you have no idea why you're sad or irritable all the time, then it's time to learn the secrets of how to eat for your mental health. This is the easy guide to learning which vitamins and minerals are necessary for stable moods, and the real reason you should watch what you eat!
Dear Friend:
My name is Jessica Alvarez Fernandez. I have written a 59 page book about depression as it relates to your diet. Are you frustrated by lack of progress after seemingly endless hours of counseling to try to lift your depression? Are you about to give up therapy because it's taking too long and costing you too much money? Is a loved one moody and irritable most of the time for no apparent reason?
I, like many of you, have spent years trying to figure out why I felt depressed, irritable and moody most of the time. As a young adult, I had no idea what happiness was and I figured if I made it my goal, I'd never get it. I went to many different styles of therapy, including the strange ones like crawling therapy, primal therapy, a submersion tank, and countless workshops and seminars, all in search of something that would lift the dark cloud from my life. I studied many meditation styles, hoping that becoming enlightened would end my misery. It's not as easy as it sounds! Even though I didn't get enlightened, I gained a lot of ground by meditation and self-observation, no doubt.
But in my search I found another key. Although attitude plays a big part in our mental health, it's not everything!
I asked myself, "Could it be that simple? Could changing what I eat really improve my depression?"
I am a researcher, writer, and webmaster in the wellness industry, so finding answers is something I like to do. When researching, I found that books on nutrition focus mostly on bodily benefits to changing your diet. For instance, cutting down on fried foods helps reduce your risk for cardiovascular disease. And then I found that books on emotions focus mostly on mental techniques to reduce stress, and ways to change self-talk. When both types of books discuss depression, they both suggest pharmaceutical antidepressants.
Currently about 40 million people in the USA are taking antidepressants. These drugs have given people hope when they thought they had none. However, there is another side to the pharmaceutical solution. The drawback is serotonin syndrome, in which the side effects of taking the drug actually mimic the condition the patient was looking to relieve.
In order to raise awareness about the side effects of taking these drugs, and let people know that there are dietary alternatives, I put together the reference guide Sad For No Reason.
Here is what Grace Mauzy of GEM Parenting has to say about my work:
I have been the webmaster for a health and wellness publishing web site for about five years; I do extensive research and writing for it and also for the books sold on it. I’ve had four research reports published online, and I’ve anonymously written two chapters in our bestselling book.
I developed a secondary index for the same book. To make an index, you have to read through the book and insert an invisible marker next to a keyword you want to appear in the index. In the process of doing this tedious task of counting and marking the different uses of supplements I realized how much of our health and wellness is dependent on the foods we eat or don’t eat. I saw how a single supplement that is high in antioxidants can help alleviate over 40 health conditions.
What a clear indication that after discounting genetics, we all have an excellent chance of guiding ourselves into great health as we grow old by including the right foods in our diets!
I had the idea to share this knowledge with everyone who is struggling with depression. What I found astounded me! Depression is listed as a symptom of deficiency in over twenty different vitamins and minerals! I wondered if my own vegetarian diet could provide all the necessary nutrients for my optimum brain health.
Then I learned about the recommended daily allowances (RDA) and was further shocked to find out that they were set up as a guideline for how much of a nutrient you need to avoid deficiency. The RDA does not help us understand how much of a vitamin or mineral you need to have excellent health, only sub-optimal health just over deficiency. I wondered if my everyday diet could meet even the minimum RDA of all these nutrients!
I spent over ten months researching, bookmarking, note-taking, comparing and compiling in my spare time to come up with all of the information found in my book Sad For No Reason. This book is tailor-made for information regarding depression and nutrition.
It features at least four original charts and graphs to help explain the content. There is a fully functional table of contents in the "bookmarks" sidebar of the file. Use the links to easily jump to whatever section you want to read. Here is an image of the actual book opened in Acrobat Reader. Do you see the search field at the top right? Use that to search on any term! Forgot what foods "chromium" is found in? Search.
